During another sale on http://GearBest.com (http://rediska.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=169&p=72058&hilit=s320#p72058), I noticed a cheap projector. After reading reviews and comparing prices, I choose a white one for purchase.
Before purchasing, I had known that I shouldn’t expect such an inexpensive thing to be something supernatural, but I hoped that sometimes I could watch a movie. Looking ahead, I should say that reality impressed me... but there are still some nuances.
Delivery and packaging.
Taking the box from the courier, I was amazed by its size. I didn’t know the real size of the projector, so I thought it would be something big and bulky.
But in the first box, I saw a second smaller box and a lot of bubble wrap. I was very pleased, as it increased the chances of the product to be fine. By the way, I noticed that GearBest has been trying to make the packaging adapted to the content. If it’s fragile or large thing, the packaging is proper as well.
In the inner box, the packed projector was enclosed.
Branded packaging of the projector is of high quality, made of cardboard with quality printing.
Opening the box with the projector, I found one more layer of dense polyethylene foam (izolon) with a thickness of about 1cm around the perimeter of the box, which was glued together in a form of the projector package.
Due to all these warnings, the S320 LCD Projector was delievered completely unharmed.
So, let’s have a look at the equipment.
Adapter from RCA jacks +2 audio in the projector
Remote with 2 AAA batteries slot (not supplied)
19V 3A power supply
And a short manual. All the equipment is assembled. The necessary minimum is present. I wish there was another HDMI cable in the package, but the projector is not equipped with it.
The projector has input interfaces for every taste, they are positioned on the rear side. There are a VGA to connect to a computer as a monitor, the HDMI cable, a card reader for TF card, an USB input for flash drives, an AV port for an adapter completed with the RCA jacks, and an audio output to speakers. There is also an IR receiver of the remote on the rear side. Odd place for that, in my opinion. Below, there is a screw for the adjustment of the trapezoid slope matrix.
On the right side, we can see a power socket and a grate of the cooler.
At the front, there is a lens with a protective cap and a retractable leg on a thread to adjust the position of the projector. The cap can be easily removed and protects from dust and mechanical damage during storage of the projector. Rotating of the lens ring softens and sharpens the image.
There are no adjustments on the left side panel of the projector.
On top of the projector, there are menu and navigation buttons, and also buttons of source selection and a power button.
The bottom of the projector.
The S320 Projector has no built-in Android operating system, but it is quite universal even without it.
Native resolution is 800x600 px, which is very good for a home projector, especially for the price.
Brightness is 1800 lumens with 1500:1contrast. In fact, these numbers mean nothing. In practice, the projector can be used with comfort only in the almost dark room. In the daytime, you won’t see anything.
Screen distance is 1.5 - 4.5 meters. Sharpness is adjustable, the slope of the matrix as well. This means that the projector can be placed under the ceiling in front of the screen or under that. The sharpness of the "distant" area will be slightly worse than in the middle. Therefore, it is preferable to put the projector on the center of the screen. Sharpness is configured well enough and the picture is perfect on almost the whole screen. Distortion is only visible on the screen borders, and even if there is a text.
Unfortunately, the S320 LCD Projector has no option to adjust the distortion when the projector is left or right of the center of the screen. Therefore, if you place the projector on any side, the screen output will be not in the form of a rectangle, but of a trapezoid. And the farther from the center of the screen, the more is the distortion in the form of a trapezoid. After configuring the location and connecting of the projector, you can enjoy clear picture with really juicy bright colors.
I was surprised by the size of the projection, because I subjectively thought it would be less. At the 3.20 meters distance of the projector from the wall image size amounted to 2.20 m*1.50 m. By the way, the size can be reduced in the settings of the projector.
To access the projector's menu system you can use the remote or buttons on the projector.
When enabled, you can select the signal sources. I connected a AndroidTV BOX via HDMI. As for me, it’s the most convenient symbiosis for the projector. TV BOX connected to a standard USB radio mouse to manage programs. A radio keyboard was less comfortable, so it’s no longer in use.
Regardless of the signal source, you can configure video, sound, system and set the on/off timer.
The picture is displayed on the wallpaper, so there is some texture on the uniform background. The projector screen will give a much clearer picture.
It is very simple to connect to the TV-box, the system picks up the right resolution and you don’t need to configure it. In fact, you just wait until the loading of the Android is finished.
It is all clear with movies, but TV-box gives you one more opportunity – to watch TV channels. I use the LazyIPTV program connecting the torrentTV playlist (ACE stream). In the end, I have over 700 channels (95% in Russian, the rest is the Ukraine, Belarus and so on, but no Arabic etc.) in high quality. Also there are HD, Discovery, Viasat, cinema hits etc., and it is all completely free.
There are some disadvantages: long switching of channels (5-10 sec) and ACE stream sometimes works odd enough that sometimes leads to inhibition of the switching interface.
For convenience I made an improvised shelf for the projector. It is portable so that I could just put or remove it at any time. Apart from that, external speakers are plugged in under the screen, because I’m more accustomed to watch movies in this way.
Here's how it all looks.
In general, it looks a bit unpresentable. If I would like the projector over time, I’m gona make a stationary shelf on the wall and place it higher.
The S320 LCD Projector is not bad to explore the world of the protectors. It is quite primitive for serious task, for example, it lacks intensity, and adjustments to configure trapezium as well. Also I wish the sharpness on the edges of the picture was better. A cooling fan is noisy, but you get used to it when watching, and over time you don’t even notice it.
But, on the other hand, in the dark it produces a quite juicy picture, even on the wallpaper you really enjoy watching. Now, the kid asks to watch cartoons on the big screen every evening. The 800x600 resolution is quite enough for viewing pleasure, pixels can be seen only at short distance.
Considering the price and the features, I recommend it for purchase. For home use the S320 LCD Projector is the best option.
